Stainless steels and Super alloys

Super alloys:

  • Stainless steels

Most common problems:

  • Abrasiveness of the material
  • Resonance of the machine and/or workpiece
  • Vibrations of the workpiece and/or tool

How to deal with this:

  • Stable clamping of tool and material
  • Coolant
  • Chip flow

VHC new generation end mills for machining exotic materials:

  • VHVTR: 4 and 5 Flute for roughing/semi finishing.
  • VHTR: Trochoidal end mill with chamfer
  • HABM: Ballnose for finishing/semi finishing
  • HAMF (L-XL): Multiple flute finishing


  • Sharp geometry
  • Polished flutes
  • Coating with low friction coefficient

Try to have as much coolant on the tool as possible. For materials as mentioned above: recommended oil percentage of the emulsion coolant if possible between 8-12% (grease). Also, try to have a smooth chip-flow so the chip can leave the flute easily.
